From Mine Sites to Real-Time Air Quality: AaxisNano Advances Monitoring at Surda Mines

Aaxis Nano Technologies designed, supplied, installed, tested and commissioned three Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) for Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) at the Surda Mines in Jharkhand. The deployment brings together continuous air-quality measurement, meteorologicalmonitoring and connected data management.

Continuous Monitoring at Surda Mines

Monitoring air quality around mining operations requires reliable field infrastructure, consistent measurements and timely access to collected data.

The three CAAQMS stations cover upwind and downwind directions within a 5 km periphery of the mine. Each station integrates ambient air analysers, gas sampling systems, meteorological sensors and data acquisition infrastructure. Dedicated station shelters support calibration, maintenance, power distribution and reliable field operation.

Integrated Air Quality & Meteorological Measurement

The stations monitor SO₂, NO–NO₂–NOx, CO, PM₂.₅ and PM₁₀ using UV fluorescence, chemiluminescence, NDIR spectroscopy and β-ray attenuation measurement technologies.

The system also records wind speed, wind direction, ambient temperature, relative humidity, rainfall
and solar radiation, providing meteorological context to the air-quality data.

Connected Data. Centralised Visibility.

Three local Data Acquisition Systems and one Central DAS support data logging, display and transfer from the monitoring stations.

Static IP-based communication connects the stations with CPCB and JSPCB servers, supporting online data transmission. The project also provides for remote calibration and online data transmission to JSPCB/CPCB for three years.

Calibration. Validation. Reliable Data.

The system includes multi-gas calibration equipment, zero-air generation and calibration gas cylinders to support analyser calibration.

Together, the monitoring stations provide Hindustan Copper Limited with a connected view of ambient air conditions, bringing field measurements, meteorological observations and regulatory data connectivity into a common monitoring framework.
