Actuator, Pneumatic (Type 755)

DESCRIPTION

The Type 755 actuator is a pneumatically operated, spring opposed diaphragm actuator designed specifically to fit the Research
Control Valve body-bonnet assembly. The unit is available in two sizes: one to fit the 1/4 in. (6 mm) valve and a larger version to
fit the 1/2…1 in. (12…25 mm) valves. It provides a smooth linear extension of the valve stem upon an increasing instrument
signal. A decrease in instrument signal causes the stem to retract and open the valve. Downward closing force is generated by
instrument air on top of the diaphragm. An increasing pressure in the diaphragm cavity opposes the force of the spring and extends
the stem, closing the valve. The unit is designed to retract the stem, opening the valve, should the instrument signal fail.

FUNCTION

The 1/4 in. (6 mm) size 755 actuator normally operates in response to a 3…15 psi (0.2…1 bar) change in instrument signal, or a
12 psi (0.8 bar) range. This signal range causes the valve to stroke a distance of approximately 7/16 in. (11 mm). The standard spring
has a deflection rate of 25 pounds per 1/8 in. (3 mm) and operates against an effective diaphragm area of approximately 7 in.2
(4516 mm2 ). The 1/2 in. (12 mm) size 755 actuator also normally operates in response to a 3…15 psi change in instrument signal, or
a 12 psi (0.8 bar) range. This signal range causes the valve to stroke a distance of approximately 9/16 in. (14 mm). The standard spring in the 1/2 in. (12 mm) unit has a deflection rate of 30 pounds per 1/8 in. (3 mm) and operates against an effective diaphragm area of approximately 11 in.2 (7096 mm2).

Actuator, Pneumatic (Type PA35)

DESCRIPTION

The PA35 actuator is a 35-square-inch pneumatic, multi-spring diaphragm actuator designed specifically to fit the RCV product
line. The actuator can be used with a wide range of valve solutions from larger process valves to high-pressure applications. The
actuator is field reversible (without additional parts) allowing flexibility within the field. This actuator is available air-to-open or
air-to-close. The actuator comes with either 3 springs for a 3…15 psi signal range or 6 springs for a 6…30 psi signal range. Both ranges are adjustable to match bench loading with the requirements for your application. The yoke and the actuator housings are made of carbon steel and coated with epoxy for corrosion resistance.

FUNCTION

The PA35 actuator normally operates in response to a 3…15 psi change in instrument signal, or a 12 psi range. The 3…15 psi
spring set is adjustable to 8…20 psi and the 6…30 psi spring set is adjustable to 16…40 psi to allow the user a wide range for shut-off
capability. This signal range causes the valve to stroke a distance of approximately 9/16…1 inch, depending on the associated RCV valve.

Actuator, Pneumatic (Type 754)

DESCRIPTION

The Type 754 actuator is a pneumatically operated, spring-opposed diaphragm actuator designed specifically to fit the Research
Control Valve body-bonnet assembly. The unit is available in two sizes: one to fit the 1/4 in. valve and a larger version to fit the
1/2…1 in. valves. It provides smooth linear retraction of the valve stem upon an increasing instrument signal. A decrease in instrument signal causes the stem to extend and close the valve. Downward closing force is generated by the spring, bearing on the diaphragm plate. An increasing pressure in the diaphragm cavity opposes the force of the spring and retracts the stem, opening the
valve. The unit is designed to extend the stem, closing the valve,
should the instrument signal fail. The actuator has an integrated
up-travel stop.

FUNCTION

The 1/4 in. size 754 actuator normally operates in response to a 3…15 psi (0.21…1.03 bar) change in instrument signal, or a
12 psi (0.8 bar) range. This signal range causes the valve to stroke a distance of approximately 7/16 in. (11 mm). The standard spring
has a deflection rate of 25 pounds (11.3 kg) per 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) and operates against an effective diaphragm area of approximately
7.3 in.2 (4709.6 mm2). The 1/2 in. size 754 actuator also normally operates in response to a 3…15 psi (0.21…1.03 bar) change in instrument signal, or a 12 psi (0.8 bar) range. This signal range causes the valve to stroke a distance of approximately 9/16 in. (14.4 mm). The standard spring in the 1/2 in. unit has a deflection rate of 30 pounds (13.6 kg) per 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) and operates against an effective diaphragm area of approximately 11.25 in.2 (7258 mm2).

Model 9100 Extension Process Control Valve

DESCRIPTION

The ORION® Series 9100 bronze control valve is available with a Stainless Steel bonnet extension for cold service to –325° F
(–198° C), see ASME/ANSI B16.24. This option uses the standard bronze bonnet with a removable extension made of 316SST:

  • Available in a short 4 in. (101 mm) or long 6 in. (152 mm)
    extension (SST portion).
  • Standard packing is a single set of PTFE chevron rings with live
    spring loading.
  • Mounting brackets are available for use in
    high-vibration applications.

APPLICATION

This option is suitable for cold, non-corrosive liquids and vapors, whenever external icing is possible or when the packing must be insulated from the cold fluid passing through the valve body.

FEATURES

The stainless steel extension is a superior insulator, compared to conventional bronze extensions, due to its greater strength and
resistance to heat transfer.
